About Us

Concerned and Engaged Bow Valley Residents

Who We Are

We are a volunteer non-profit Society based in Canmore, Alberta

Established July 2002

Through evidence-based research, monitoring, and education we work with community organizations, all levels of government, businesses and individuals to continuously improve the air quality in the Bow Valley.

What We Do

Empower citizens to make more informed decisions through public education.

Monitor air quality in the Bow Valley.

Encourage municipalities and industries to strive for continuous improvement.

Facilitate the implementation of practical solutions to enhance the air quality in the Bow Valley.

Past Projects

We have purchased, installed and are operating a number of fine particulate monitors in the Bow Valley. This has become an important part of what we do with new cost effective air monitoring equipment and with the increase in wildfire smoke.

We participated in convincing the Alberta Government to phase out Alberta’s coal-fired power plants.

We advocated for and became a founding member of the Calgary Regional Airshed Zone (CRAZ).

We conducted educational initiatives with local schools.

Gave informational sessions on clean air.

We facilitated Environment Canada’s “Burn it Smart Wood Stove Program” and “Lets Drive Green Program”.

We promoted local air advocacy initiatives.

We worked with local industries and individuals to ensure emissions are minimized.

We promoted "modern" roundabouts to replace traffic lights in order to reduce pollution and idling.

We sponsored numerous environmental forums with political candidates for Canmore municipal elections to raise awareness of environmental issues.

We hosted public meetings on the subject of “Food Waste Matters - It’s Not Garbage Anymore” and continue to support more composting initiatives.

We promoted numerous anti-idling initiatives.

We promoted the use of bike and pedestrian modes of transport instead of cars.
